Storage tanks and plate heat exchangers
Indirect In addition to direct fired gas water heaters, A.O. Smith manufactures storage tanks, either with or without integral heat exchangers, in the range of 289 - 3000 litres. Tanks without a heat exchanger carry the designation 'ST', those with one coil are 'IT' and 'ITE' tanks and those with twin coils are named 'ITS'.
With or without exchanger (ST, IT, ITE)
Depending on the application, the tanks designated ST can function as a buffer vessel for additional hot water (to enlarge the system capacity). Where an integral single coil is fitted, they carry the designation IT. The ITE is used to transfer the heat supplied by, for example, a solar collector system.
Dual coil tanks (ITS)
With capacities from 289 -1007L, A.O. Smith has a range of dual coil tanks. Typically, the upper coil would connect to boiler plant whilst the lower coil would connect to a solar system.
Inspection
The storage tanks and the indirect water heaters are all equipped with clean-out doors as standard to facilitate maintenance. This enables the water-side maintenance to be carried out easily and efficiently.
Plate heat exchangers (PHE)
A.O. Smith supplies a range of plate heat exchangers with double separation, making themsuitable for high output, potable hot water applications. Plate heat exchangers of type PHE are available in capacities of 50-275 kW. Insulation covers to minimize the heat losses are also available.
